Wolf Feet - S/T (Marzo 2013)

¡TRANSLATION IN THE COMMENTS SECTION !

  1. C’mon! Hit PLAY. We bet a surprised grin will follow. Absolutely normal, Wolf Feet may be the most peculiar band we’ve reviewed to date, totally estranged from garage and punk, but not from the lo-fi sounds we love.

It took only two recording sessions for this band from Santa Cruz, California, to collect ten tracks (or the same, their only EP to date and its three previous Demos) and shape them into their first LP.

They open the album with probably their best song, or at least most catchy, "Dead Hand", which at the same time puts an end to this Wolf Feet with an alternate version, cruder and very much less retouched, with more guitars, version that we personally enjoy more.

In between, huge doses of melody and a mix of synth-pop and new wave, giving low definition a whole new way to look at. Standing out are "Infinity Projector", which sounds like a less "neat” typical tune of a-ha, and "Bowie Birthday", with which it’s impossible not to be shake yourself dancing (besides being a good wink to omnipresent Bowie), and that will sound familiar if you listened up to minute 45:45 of our Mixtape # 1. Even Future Islands’ echoes reverberate around ("Broken Dreams").
It’s true, there are some moments that can feel quite a burden ("Red Highway"), but immediately afterwards they make up for it with the brilliance of "Cool Frogs" or the trip-to-the-eighties "Humans Rewind".

The last three tunes, the ones from the old Demo, clash with the smoothness and cleanliness of the first seven, sounding even post-punk in the smashing tune that is "H e y y o u", or the psychedelic pit that drags you in with “We are”, giving an added twist to lo-fi, sending the main voice away and flooding everything in loudness.

The album has been released by Resurrection Records in a very-ultra limited cassette, 100 copies, to be exactly.
¡And the first 20 are hand numbered and printed in a spectacular manilla envelope!
