Halfrican - Hot! Hot! Hot! (EP, Sept 2012)

¡TRANSLATION IN THE COMMENTS SECTION !

  1. Sometimes 10 minutes are just enough to fall for a band, exactly the duration of Halfrican’s first EP, Hot! Hot! Hot!, although in their case we did not need even one.

When we discovered them we were blown away. Few bands have surprised us that much, let alone a debut, as this trio of Glasgow which began as the solo project of Sancho Büna last spring, and the later addition of Jackson Marlette (drums and vocals) and Anne Droo (bass and vocals).

After recording this first material in summer, they started playing in Scotland, opening for Jacuzzi Boys and even Ty Segall.
The EP begins with "Disciple", a song (or rather a super-one-minute intro) filled with garage-punk style reverb a la Dead Ghosts or the most classic Black Lips and a voice that brings to mind Nobunny’s bubblegum. With these influences the title seems made to order, they could not have chosen better teachers.

It continues with "Hot! Hot! Hot!", the most played song in our headquarters this January. A 2 in 1, starting half post-punk lo-fi, which invites you to close your eyes and dream away (resembling a sunny Holograms), hooligan-garage in the chorus, “now I see everything black and I sink into a depression, now the sun is out and everything looks a different color”. A wonder worth of title the EP.

"Guillotine" returns to the initial fuzzy garage, with an easy melody after a "hey!" looking like straight out of the bowels of Dwyer, "Coca Eyes" (the favorite of half of Lo-Fi Your Brains Out), garage-rock classic, more pop, with a less messy guitar (or a cleaner sound) constantly checking the melody, and "Good Teeth" as a final cherry. More distortion, more good surf rock riffs and a sense of joy, freshness and good feeling that can last all day.

This is a soundtrack for everyday. For those days when you’re going out for just a beer and end up partying 36 hours later and even for those days going to work with a smile for everyone.
They may be Half African, but we are 111% absolute fans!!
