Lo Mejor de 2012 por LO-FI YOUR BRAINS OUT Parte II: Top Internacional

¡TRANSLATIONS IN THE COMMENTS SECTION!

19.- Bare Wires - Idle Dreams
(Southpaw Records)

18.- Naomi Punk - The Feeling
(Captured Tracks)

15.- White Fang - Positive Feedback
(Burger Records)

14.- Thee Oh Sees - Putrifiers II
(In The Red)

13.- Pop Zeus - S/T
(Burger Records)

Aire fresco para el power-pop y enormes himnos como "Dead In The Water""Devil's In The Details" o "New Day Tomorrow".

12.- Tyvek - On Triple Beams
(In The Red)

11.- Gap Dream - S/T
(Burger Records)

10.- Terry Malts - Killing Time
(Slumberland)

9.- Needles//Pins - 12:34
(Mammoth Cave Rec.)

8.- PUJOL - United States Of Being
(Saddle Creek)

7.- Holograms - S/T
(Captured Tracks)

5.- Jeff the Brotherhood - Hypnotic Nights
(Warner Bros / Infinity Cat Rec.)

4.- Magic Jake & the Power Crystals- S/T
(Burger Records)

3.- Mean Jeans - On Mars
(Dirtnap)

2.- Audacity - Mellow Cruisers
(Burger / Recess Records)

The Barbaras - 2006-2008
         (Goner Records)

¡Reseñado en Lo-Fi Your Brains Out!

Ty Segall - Twins / Slaughterhouse (como Ty Segall Band) / Hair (con White Fence)

(Drag City / In the Red / Drag City)

Twins ¡Reseñado en Lo-Fi Your Brains Out!

Slaughterhouse ¡Reseñado en Lo-Fi Your Brains Out!

Natural Child - Hard in Heaven / For the love of the game
(Burger Records)

Hard in Heaven ¡Reseñado en Lo-Fi Your Brains Out!

7", EPs, Splits

10.- Turbo Fruits / Bad Cop SPLIT
(Jeffery Drag Records)

9.- Missing Monuments - (I'm gonna) Love You Back to Life
(Hozac Records)

8.- Girls Names / Weird Dreams SPLIT
(Slumberland Records)

7.- Nightmare Boyzzz / Younger Siblings Split
(Spring Street Records / Fat Sandwich Records)

6.- Gravys Drop - Hot Donuts Now
(Burger Records)

5.- Total Control - Scene From A Marriage
(Sub Pop)

4.- Denney and the Jets - S/T
(Limited Fanfare Records)

3.- King Tuff - Wild Desire
(Suicide Squeeze)

2.- Warm Soda -  Reaction
(Southpaw Records)

1.- Best Friends- Throwing Up
(Art is Hard Records)

  2. TRANSLATION LP'S:

    La Secte Du Futur
Misterious guitars, enchanting synths and voices that somehow whispers while encouraging you to follow them. Only the promises of a mass suicide a la Jonestown could make this album more perfect.

    Bare Wires - Idle Dreams
We cannot miss this posthumous album, one of the greatest Oakland bads, a garage-rock trio that left us following SXSW. Idle Dreams is the best farewell gift ever done, all in the line of old hits.

    Naomi Punk - The Feeling
Garage-punk for open minds. Unpredictable rhythms, mind-blowing melodies and a touch of Ty Segall mixed with the best alternative rock. SIMPLY BRILLIANT.

    Sam Flax - Age Waves
First thought after hearing Sam Flax was: Fuck, we just discovered the new Bowie.
Well, not exactly, but the pop glow that shines in every song is absolutely magic, and treasures like “Another Day” would be a prove that this guy is going to be a huge name.

    White Fang - Positive Feedback
From Portland they came, the very esence of lo-fi. This record sounds like a demo, tho behing that lies awesome songs like "If I Had a Van", huge influences and a terrific garage rock.

Thee Oh Sees - Putrifiers II
Maybe releasing once a year is not the best option to keep fans eager for something new, but if done as Thee Oh Sees does it, it’s a fucking bless.
They keep on hitting the gas and attack again with their insane psy-garage

    Tyvek - On Triple Beams
Beneath the mantle of lo-fi, sometimes dissonant, covering this On Triple Beams, lies complexes melodies, equally great, party songs like "Say Yeah", and over all a prove of how good this Detroir band is. An album where every song is a fucking adventure.

    Terry Malts - Killing Time
Terry Malts, a trio from California, are hitting hard with their debut, punk-rock as its purest, raw vértigo, full of slaps like "Something About Us", that leaves you with an exhausted smile after finishing the album.

    Holograms - S/T
This four swedish youngsters are post-punk’s greatest hope of the XXI century. Their winning combination of bass and synth makes, with the addition of distorted guitars, you melt in pure pleasure.

    Nü Sensae - Sundowning
We award them with the most brutal and violent record of this year. This Vancouver trio backs up their sound with the perfect mix of noise and screaming-angry punk. In the shivering "100 Shades" o "Tyjna", Lukic show us their Serbian origins.

Magic Jake & the Power Crystals- S/T
At first I Heard "Still So Young", then I read that belonged to a superband with former members of The GO, The Detroit Cobras, Magic Shop, The Readies, Electric Fire Babies, Isles of ESP, Conspiracy of Owls y Hi-Speed Dubbing, of course I bought the LP right away, without even listen to any other song. It wasn’t necessary, I knew that record was something unique.

    Mean Jeans - On Mars
On Mars must have been the record I’ve had in repeat the most. Without a doubt whatsoever its of the most catchiest and addictive punk in years. I refuse to think any punk fan can listen to "Nite of the Creeps" just once. "Party punk" from Portland.

    Audacity - Mellow Cruisers
Heroes of new american punk, "heirs" of Descendents or Adolescents, sounds of whom they combine with today's garage.
Heading from California, this guys have created some of the biggest hits we heard lately, "Extensions" o "Persecuted" are good example of it!

    King Tuff - S/T
Garage flirting with pop, almost bubblegum, creating songs worth of listening over and over again, good example is "Bad Thing", or the great mid tempo "Loser's Wall". Just add some of the best riffs of the past year and you have the perfect record to stay alone and stone at home.

  3. Special Selection

The Barbaras, for not being a record per se, but a compilation of what could be one the best bands of the past decade. Even so, for us, this is the best album this past year.

Ty Segall and Natural Child are neither in our list because they will simply smash everyone else, not only because they’ve release more than one album, but also because all were fucking great.

  4. TRANSLATION EP's

Turbo Fruits / Bad Cop SPLIT
The only release for Bad Cop this year, and well since they began. Just this should be a fair reason to listen this Split to extenuation. But if you need another reason, the A side has Turbo Fruits. If "Wet Lips" doesn’t make you run to the nearest beach, you’re dead inside.

Missing Monuments - (I'm gonna) Love You Back to Life
Following the mid tempo "(I'm gonna) Love You Back to Life", which is the title track of this 7”, we find "Bleed", histerical punk fancied with riffs, and "Another Girl" THE song, sounding more highschool punk, softening the voice, caring more about the melody and adding chorus.
They should label the cover with a warning “WATCH OUT, HIGHLY CATCHY”

Girls Names / Weird Dreams SPLIT
Girls Names from Belfast and Weird Dreams from London, seemed it was a matter of time for they to release something together. Both bands move around similar mystical atmospheres, invading and numbing you; ones with post-punk covered in lo-fi, the others with a sheery jangle pop. The result was beautiful, as expected.

Nightmare Boyzzz / Younger Siblings Split
A hard contrast between the twee lo-fi of Younger Siblings (makes you think of Magic Kids) and the infectious punk of Nightmare Boyzzz is what makes this Split a must, which was re-released in 7”, and has tunes like “Devil III”

Total Control - Scene From A Marriage
One of the best song released this year, begins slightly folk, but finishes tearing you apart. Total Control are masters creating atmospheres, passing the threshold of post-punk and psychedelic, heading to another dimension. Listening to this song is the perfect mind-blowing experience.

Denney and the Jets - S/T
True heirs of alt-country and american blues, Denney & The Jets are a hurricane of fresh air to this genres. Pieces for music connoisseur’s, fans of Creedence or The Byrds and a kind of country-er Rolling Stones.

    King Tuff - Wild Desire
No need to say we are confessed lovers of King Tuff, and with songs like "Wild Desire" we couldn’t let him out of this list.
And with a B-side like "Hole In My Head" would be a crime to not mention this 7”.

    Warm Soda - Reaction
“Reaction” is one of our anthems, an easy and sweet melody, Pulp turning over to power-pop, glam from Oakland. Eagerly looking forward to end of January, when they will release their debut.

    Best Friends- Throwing Up
Best Friends are the definition of positivism, being in a good mood, like looking at the mirror and find yourself ridiculously fine, the sun hitting your face.
Opening with “Wasting Time”, this four-piece from Sheffield brings us the best surf lo-fi, proving that it’s quality garage outside USA.
