Los de Olympia, Washington, liderados por un Isaac Rother que posee una aura de showman equiparable a la de King Khan, combinan el soul y el rock'n'roll con elementos de The Trashmen y de figuras del rockabilly como Eddie Fontaine.
Puede que sea esa simpleza, apenas con tres acordes por tema, lo que más atrae, anteponiendo el sentimiento y la energía a la elaboración de la propia música, dejando de lado todo lo superficial que rodea la música moderna y centrándose en lo que para ellos es esencialmente importante.
Las primeras notas de "I've Got a Feeling" recuerdan a las de "I Can't Turn You Loose", ese single del gran Otis Redding, un icono que es, sin duda, un espejo en el que mirarse para todo aquel que aspire a remover las raíces de la música americana. Los coros y teclados acompañan magistralmente una voz que tiene carisma y una guitarra que toma vida para acabar construyendo una canción que bien pudiera haber entrado en los mejores charts de mediados del siglo pasado.
La cara B es más de lo mismo, en el mejor de los sentidos. "Hitman", donde por un instante el espíritu de Ray Charles parece asomar la cabeza, un tema que golpea con una fuerza fuera de lo común.
Con Isaac Rother & The Phantoms, Resurrection Records nos da una lección de eclecticismo, de arriesgarse desmarcándose del punk o los derivados del garage y salir con el puño en alto.
