TV Colours – Purple Skies, Toxic River (Junio 2013): HIMNOS HOOLIGAN

¡ENGLISH VERSION BELOW!

-ENGLISH VERSION-

TV COLOURS - HOOLIGAN ANTHEMS

Bobby Kill, with a name fit for a Californian punk legend from the 1970s, started TV Colours as a solo project in 2007. Nowadays TV Colours are Bobby Kill, Catfish, Ed Wood and L.A. Thomas, from Canberra (Australia), and they are releasing Purple Skies, Toxic River their first LP on XVIII Records (FR), which has been six good years in the making. Nothing other than 15 lo-fi synth punk tunes from the Australian capital. As a distant cousin of Japanther and the Splits, and with some hits which even compete with Germs (but with a high dosis of distortion) we at Lo-Fi Your Brains Out certainly think this album is something to shout about.

Every song, sang with a youthful and anthemic urgency, draws on eclectic references that range from raw punk to dream pop, and creates an album which sounds fresh and surprisingly compact despite the mix of influences. Even if “Beverly” was the single chosen for the album launch, let's not forget tracks such as the inescapable “Lost Higway”, the weird and melancholic “The Lost Years” or the powerful guitars of “Dark Days Against the Fade". Every one of them a hit on the first listen. Songs to be sang by drunken choirs.
With every listen you're more pumped. Simple yet effective solos sit on basslines which never lose the beat, as heard in “Run with the Creeps” whose intro is clearly influenced by the pure style of The Normal.

TV Colours debuted with a self-titled 7” in January 2011 on the label Dream Damage (AUS), which included the heavy rhythms and distorted voices that still define them today. The stand-out hit “The Kids are all Grown Up” also features here on the new full-length.

In the past they have also collaborated on a fantastic split with Assassins 88 (a previous project of L.A. Thomas) and Catholic Spray, with featured track 'Lethal' that you can enjoy here. This split was one of XVIII Records' first references, including bands that would later go on to be of the most celebrated that they work with.
